Where to Place Cameras on a Houston Home

HPD data shows most residential burglaries in Houston enter through back doors, side windows or garage doors — not the front. Your camera layout should reflect that.

  • Front door / porch — captures package theft, visitor activity, approach angles
  • Driveway — vehicle identification, license plate capture, motion alerts
  • Backyard / back door — #1 entry point for burglars, often unwatched by neighbors
  • Side gates — narrow access points between houses, common in Houston's tight lot layouts
  • Garage (interior) — catches break-ins through overhead doors, covers tool storage

Houston Weather Considerations

Houston's climate is brutal on outdoor electronics. Heat, humidity and hurricane-force rain. Every camera we install is IP66 or IP67 rated — waterproof, dustproof and rated for -22°F to 140°F. We use stainless steel mounting hardware (not aluminum that corrodes in Gulf Coast humidity) and UV-rated cable jackets.

During hurricane season, cameras keep recording on battery backup even if power goes out. Post-storm footage is invaluable for insurance claims — we've had clients use footage to document wind damage timing and water entry points that saved thousands on claims.

Pair Cameras with an Alarm

Cameras alone record evidence after the fact. Add an alarm system and the monitoring center can verify intrusions on your camera feed before dispatching police. Verified alarms get faster police response and eliminate false alarm fines.
